Facilitation

I have taught at the Mount Eliza Business School, and was co-ordinator if the IT program at Swinburne University's Australian Graduate School of Entrepreneurship where I designed and delivered courses in three subjects; IT for Competitive Advantage, Internet Business Models, and Entrepreneurial eBusiness & Strategic Transformation. More recently I have been a guest lecturer at Melbourne University in their Graduate School of Management.

Throughout Australia, New Zealand, South East Asia, Taiwan and India I have delivered over 500 workshops in both public and private courses covering Business Process Re-engineering (BPR), IT for Competitive Advantage, IT & Business Strategic Alignment. And for the Malaysian Government a special program for Technopreneurs to teach them how to build and promote their businesses and how to raise venture funds.

Over the years we have achieved a lot of success by employing workshops as a technique to solve what are sometimes intransigent problems. Workshops function very well as a way to achieve “rapid consulting” and also provide a fantastic opportunity to educate and inform a broader audience which in turn creates far greater buy-in to any project.

We have used workshops, for clients, to:

  • Develop the Mission Statement of a business or division
  • To identify and resolve problems
  • To plan projects
  • To model and design workflows, business processes, and systems
Swinburne Australian Graduate School of Entrepreneurship "During the course of my MBA study at the Australian Graduate School of Entrepreneurship, Swinburne University of Technology, Darryl Carlton was an extremely influential lecturer who provided me with the confidence to move forward in my career. Darryl's excellent teaching capabilities together with his exceptional ability to impart relevant information to students was enhanced by the industry experience he brought to each class. This enabled me to actively apply the theoretical concepts in a practical and commercially viable way to all aspects of business."

We can run facilitation, workshop or training programmes for any purpose which you have in mind. It could be a general purpose “Issues Workshop” to find out what needs to be addressed. It could be that you have already scheduled or planned an event and need a skilled facilitator - we could do that to. But we also have some prepared programmes available for you to consider.

For example:

PROJECT LIFTOFF

Project Lift-off is a Facilitated Program that launches your project, and prepares it for success. The major event of Project Lift-off is the facilitated workshop where all parties come together to scope, plan and launch the project.

A rapid implementation of the Prince2 methodology, Project Lift-off completes Startup (SU) and Initiation (IP) phases and produces all of the documentation necessary to create the project, get it approved, and get it underway.

At the commencement of Project Lift-off, our consultants will work with you to formalise your Project Mandate – this is the document that is used to get things started. A brief series of structured interviews with key personnel, and additional research both inside and outside the company and we will be ready for the Lift-off Workshop.

The Lift-off Workshop will gather together all of the interested parties in this project for a dynamic 3 day event. Utilising a range of techniques, including Nominal Group Technique and action learning the team will jointly decide upon the composition of the Project Board and its key appointments; develop the Project Initiation Document including the first version of the Business Case and Project Brief; develop and agree the Project Approach; develop an Initial Project Stage Plan; and prepare the Issues and Risk Logs.

At the conclusion of the Lift-off Workshop, your project will be scoped and scaled, resource requirements identified, a preferred approach documented, and ready for commencement. Key participants will have been engaged, and as a group, working together, your team will have determined the best way forward.

The benefits for you in undertaking a rapid start to your project using the Project Lift-off approach are a far greater degree of buy-in, acceptance and commitment to the project than you could obtain by slowly growing the project in the organisation. The Lift-off Workshop exposes everyone to the whole range of issues that each participant faces, and provides for a degree of understanding that is not otherwise obtainable. And of course, the sheer speed of being able to launch a project in 3 days instead of weeks or months is of incalculable benefit.

In Summary:

  • A three day facilitated workshop is the core component of Project Lift-off
  • A Rapid Implementation of the Prince2 methodology
  • Completes the Startup (SU) and Project Initiation (IP) phases
  • Produces all of the Prince2 Documentation for these phases
